What is the average swing speed for a 70-year-old man?

Updated October 2026

We have not found a measured average for men over 70, so treat any single figure you see online with care.

The closest hard data is from Par4Success, a golf-fitness group whose club-head-speed percentiles the Titleist Performance Institute published. Its median man over 60 swung the driver about 93 mph, with the 25th percentile at 86. That group has no 70-plus bracket, and golfers who sign up for fitness testing swing faster than average.

Distance data is better. The Arccos 2025 Driving Distance Report, built from 6.5 million real driver shots, put men over 70 at 190 yards of total distance, the shortest age group, against 224.7 for all men.

Our own estimate, built from the over-60 speeds and the drop in distance after 70, is 75 to 85 mph for a typical 70-year-old man, with a wide spread on either side. That is an estimate rather than a measurement. Speed also responds to training at this age; SuperSpeed reports gains of about 5 percent in golfers averaging 70.

Measure your own number rather than guessing. A launch monitor session or a $500 personal unit settles it in ten swings.
