Should seniors use Pro V1?
Updated October 2026
Yes, if you want to. The old rule that slower swingers cannot compress a Pro V1 does not hold up.
MyGolfSpy’s 2026 robot test hit balls at 85, 100, and 115 mph. At 85 mph, none of the eleven balls under 75 compression produced more driver ball speed than the Pro V1 control. Softer balls were, on average, a touch slower. Titleist’s fitting staff say the same thing: Pro V1 and Pro V1x “are designed to work for all golfers at all speeds.”
What a senior should weigh instead:
- Price. A dozen Pro V1 is $57.99. A urethane ball like the Srixon Q-Star Tour gives much of the greenside spin for $39.99.
- Spin. A urethane cover spins more on wedges, which pays off for a decent short game. Judge driver flight separately on a launch monitor.
- Feel. At 92 compression the Pro V1 is firmer than most “senior” balls. Some golfers prefer that; many do not.
Play the Pro V1 for the short game. Our senior guide lists the softer alternatives.
